We want your child’s first visit to be a positive anxiety-free experience. Our goal is to provide your child with the highest quality of dental care in a manner that allows them to grow up unafraid of visiting the dentist. We will customize your child’s visit to meet his or her specific needs, both physically and psychologically.

We have an open door policy meaning that parents are allowed in appropriate patient care areas. Occasionally, we may ask parents to leave the room so that we may focus the child’s attention on the task at hand. We also have a no restraint policy. Under no circumstances are harsh words or physical restraints utilized.

Your First Visit

Some helpful tips for your first visit: be natural, positive and easy-going. Be a role model!  Your child will look to you for cues as to what to expect and how to act at their dental appointment. If you appear calm and confident, so will your child. Please avoid phrases and words such as “it won’t hurt” drill, shot or needle. Talk about the upcoming dental visit. It is a new experience for your child, so let them know the dentist will be looking at his or her teeth to clean them and make sure that they are all healthy.

At Beckett Dental Care, we make every effort to make dental visits FUN for your child! We want to start great habits early. We know that your child’s early experiences at the dental office will determine how they view dentistry and oral health for a lifetime. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends children visit their dentist by their first birthday.  Children’s teeth will begin to erupt as early as 6 months.

What Happens During a Checkup?

During your child’s dental checkup we will spend the time to make them feel as comfortable as possible with their new surroundings. We then walk your child through his or her first appointment, as we show and tell them about each step of their dental checkup including:

  • Counting teeth
  • Cleaning teeth
  • Polishing teeth
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Nutrition recommendations
  • Orthodontic evaluation
  • Cavity risk assessment

We also offer special Kid’s Days to make your child’s experience extra fun.

  • Our entire office is transformed into a fun family-friendly theme (Polar Express, Under the Sea, Olympics, and Safari have all been recent hits). Staff and patients dress accordingly in fun costumes. We have popcorn, games, prizes, crafts, goodie bags, and more!
  • Each Kid’s Day patient will receive their dental checkup, cleaning, and exam.
