CONGRATULATIONS! THIS IS A WONDERFUL TIME FOR YOU AND BABYDr. Grabarz and his staff at Beckett Dental Care have developed this program so Moms and their infants can enjoy the benefits of good health. We find that when our Moms understand why something is important, making small changes or using a suggested product is much easier. You know the importance of taking good care of your health; and now, more than ever, it is vital for your unborn child.
First Visit By Your First BirthdayPrior to the eruption of your child’s teeth, the gums and soft tissue should be cleaned and wiped with a damp piece of gauze wrapped around your finger. Try to do this following each feeding. We will provide you with a finger toothbrush for this purpose. Use water or a non-fluoridated toothpaste with the finger brush. Your child will become accustomed to you doing this, much like when you bathe him or wipe his face. This will help us when your child comes for their first visit by first birthday because they will be accustomed to it.
Only milk or water should be used in your child’s baby’s bottle. If a bottle or an infant cup is used for extended times during the day, evening or at naps, only water should be used.
At your child’s first visit we will advise you on how to best care for your child’s teeth and gums, offer suggestions on teething and your child’s oral habits and also discuss accident prevention.
Additionally, we will provide information in regard to your child’s nutritional needs, help establish healthy snack habits and their frequency and recommend optimal fluoride intake based upon your child’s weight.
Finally, we will examine your child’s teeth for early signs of tooth decay, white spots and plaque, look for oral abnormalities and gently remove visible plaque from your child’s tooth and mouth.
